Mr. B has a terribly difficult time with writing. IEW is one of the best writing programs out there, and has helped him immensely. BUT, he still isn't on grade or age level. I've been beating myself up, trying different methods, different products, different styles. You name it, I've tried it. He can read great, but writing? No. He will abbreviate, or only write incomplete sentences, etc. After talking to one of his specialists yesterday, it all makes sense. It's not an academic inability, but a cognitive issue. He may develop this, he may not. We are certainly going to work very hard to get him there, of course. But there is a disconnect between his brain and his hands, kind of. It takes him so much effort to think of what to say, and make his mouth work. It's nearly impossible for him to think what to say, then go through all of the motions needed to write it out on paper. It's heartbreaking to watch him struggle to answer an essay question. But one day...one day he will be doing it all on his own!
