The Biggest Story, REVIEW!
Who doesn't love audio books and shortfilms? Especially in the kids' genre? I know we love them here, so I was super excited to receive the animated short film and audio book "The Biggest Story," written by Kevin DeYoung.
The Biggest Story is essentially the story of the Bible. It features amazingly beautiful artwork by Don Clark. The art work is just fantastic. It is bold, colorful, and truly paints the picture of the story. The author and illustrated worked hard to make The Biggest Story easy to understand and grasp for younger kids, while still appealing to older kids. The graphics and illustrations are eye catching, yet they do not depict scenes that may be particularly troubling for a young or empathetic child. For example, you can't tell Adam and Eve are naked, and Christ's crucifixion is not shown.
My son would have enjoyed the DVD more if it was more like a cartoon. The DVD is not animated. It is the illustrated pictures, with narration over them. He did rather enjoying looking at the pictures. Think of it like having a picture book read to you on your TV. That's what the DVD is.
All together, the audio book and DVD are both roughly 25 minutes each, so this isn't full Bible stories. It's very similar to what you'd expect if one were giving you the plot or story line of the Bible, from beginning to end.
It's a nice set, it's not word for word on the Bible, and it never claims to be. It'd be nice for a children's church group or Sunday School class, especially. This geared for kids 5-11, and I would say that's pretty accurate.
The Animated Short Film: Featuring beautifully animated illustrations adapted from the book, The Biggest Story: The Animated Short Film will captivate children and parents alike as they see how all the classic stories in the Bible connect to Scripture’s overarching message about God’s glorious plan to redeem his rebellious people.
The Audio Book: This audio book of The Biggest Story—written and narrated also by the best-selling author Kevin DeYoung—leads kids and parents alike on an exciting journey through the Bible, connecting the dots from the garden of Eden to Christ's death on the cross to the new heaven and new earth.
Kevin DeYoung is senior pastor of University Reformed Church in East Lansing, MI, husband to Trisha, and father to seven children.
