I'm not a well traveled person. Nebraska is the farthest I've been west, Michigan wins for North, Florida for the south, and VA for the east. I've obviously never been out of the country. But I've always tried to be accepting of other cultures-both domestic and foreign. I've never had to worry or concern myself with being accepted by another culture or another people since I've lived such a relatively sheltered life. So having the opportunity to experience another culture is most definitely different for me. I had such an opportunity today, being invited to a Bengali New Year event and dinner. I would like to express my gratitude for the invitation, and for the kindness and acceptance shown to me. I would also like to say a big thank you to the kind woman who prevented me from inadvertently tasting a dried fish dish LOL! I never really put much thought into what others do in a country that is much different from their own, but my near experience with stinky fish has given me much insight. How do they know what to eat? How do they know what others are saying? I got a small degree of experience with that now. It is always good to experience new things, meet new people, and learn about their lives and their culture. God made us all so very different, all so very unique. And for the people of Bangladesh, their lives are full of beautiful colors, friendly people, and some really tasty foods!
